Czech Easter

When we were growing up in Czechoslovakia in the years before 1989, the
meaning of Easter was limited to the welcoming of spring.  The religious
connotations of Easter were suppressed under the communist regime.
Nowadays, Czechs are again aware of the strong Christian background of
Easter, but Easter has not become a serious religious holiday.

Easter in the Czech Republic is a fun time. Many traditions are still
observed and practised, especially in villages, and different regions may
have their own Easter traditions and customs. For example dying and
decorating eggs, making canes for whipping girls, baking easter buns and
many others. The most important days are Easter Sunday, when people go to
church and visit relatives and then Easter Monday, when boys and men are
going from house to house, singing special carols and waiting, when the
girls and women come out of the house and can not wait for whipping them.
The girls are running around screaming and jumping and sometimes they pour
cold water on men as a revange. Boys and men receive decorated eggs and
some alcohol and everybody is having a great time.

About me

Hi! My name is Matyas. I was born in Kolín where I live now. It’s the town near our capital city Prague. My hobbies include athletics which I have a few successes in. I've been a champion of the Czech republic in high jump for four times. And other smaller successes. I really like skiing. But in the Alps only. Skiing in the Czech republic is not so good. And I go out with my friends in my free time and I like going to parties at the weekends

I like travelling too. That’s the reason why I’m in this project.

I don’t listen to pop music. I really don‘t like that. For example Madonna and Justin Bieber. I listen to mostly hip hop, rap, punk rock, funk rock. For example Red Hot Chili Peppers or The Offsprings.
